Kieron Pollard appointed West Indies' limited-overs captain

Kieron Pollard appointed West Indies' limited-overs captain

A report had suggested that the decision was taken a couple of days back and Cricket West Indies confirmed the news today.

Skerritt added that the selection task force, headed by Dr Shallow, recommended Pollard based on his experience as part of the CWI's restructured selection system.

The 27-year-old Holder, appointed ODI captain in December 2014 after just a handful of worldwide games, won just 24 of his 86 games in charge.

The big-hitting all-rounder has so far played 101 ODIs, in which he has scored 2,289 runs at an average of 25.71 with three centuries and nine fifties. Furthermore, he was ignored for the World Cup 2019 as well and was no way in contention to make it into the ODI team any time soon.

"Jason Holder is a very important force and he is still going to be our red ball captain". In T20Is, he has played 62 matches, scoring 903 runs at an average of 21.50 and has snared 23 wickets.

Former West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo wished former fellow teammate Kieron Pollard on being appointed as the new West Indies captain in a cheeky manner.

Kieron Pollard was appointed as the West Indies' limited overs captain on Monday. He was kept in the reserves for the 2019 World Cup and then featured in the T20Is against India.

A CWI statement said that the task force carried out a "four-month review" and "benchmarked cricket selection systems around the world and incorporated feedback and contributions from current and former players, coaches, administrators, franchise CEOs and almost 2,700 fans across the Caribbean".

The 32-year-old, who has been actively playing in various T20 leagues all over the world, isn't a regular part of the West Indies set-up. After that, they lost the ODI and T20I series against India. Holder, who led the team at the last two 50-over World Cups, will continue to lead the side in test cricket.

West Indies will next play against Afghanistan in their away tour set to be played in Dehradun from November 5.
