Rafael Nadal: Playing in front of Tiger Woods is 'honor'

Rafael Nadal: Playing in front of Tiger Woods is 'honor'

Rafael Nadal is off to the US Open semifinals after outlasting Diego Schwartzman 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 in a highly entertaining match at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday.

Professional golfer Tiger Woods attends the Men's Singles fourth round match between Rafael Nadal of Spain and Marin Cilic of Croatia on day eight of the 2019 US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on September 02, 2019 in Queens borough of New York City.

The number two seed has won the title here three times before, and he is on course to try for a fourth and a showdown with his old adversary, Roger Federer, in Sunday's final.

He received treatment to his left forearm early in the third set but swiftly allayed any injury fears, after a knee injury forced him to retire during last year's semi-final against Juan Martin del Potro.

"Good. I'm feeling good", he said. Schwartzman would mount another charge, winning four straight games to even the set at 5-5 before dropping the frame 7-5. Schwartzman has not beaten Nadal in seven career meetings. No, not big problems.

In this instance, though, the No. 2-seeded Nadal will not need to go through the toughest ones of all.

The smart money is on that number rising further after the 33-year-old Spaniard Nadal reached the US Open semi-finals in NY on Wednesday. "But during that match, I was born and died 15 or 16 times, '" Berrettini said about his conversation with the mental coach he's worked with for several years.

But the three-time champion shrugged it off to march into the last-eight, with a stunning around-the-net victor bringing up match point to the delight of a crowd which included Nadal's friend Tiger Woods.

"Of course, now I'm a little bit exhausted, it's been a long day".

The players stayed on serve in the third set before Nadal broke Schwartzman in game six to go up 4-2.

'I just won a very important match for me, and it is the moment to enjoy this victory. I think still it's been a positive season.

Medvedev was hindered by a sore left quadriceps muscle in a quarter-final win over three-time Grand Slam victor Stan Wawrinka but has two rest days before facing Dimitrov.

It makes him the first Italian male to get through to the semi finals of a grand slam in more than 40 years. Very, very happy for that'.

Nadal, who has endured well-documented injury troubles in his career, needed medical treatment on an arm issue but the 18-time grand slam victor insists he is in good shape. Bencic hit a backhand down-the-line victor to break for a 6-5 lead then held on a service victor to capture the first set. Schwartzman, though, rallied back nearly instantly. And seemingly out of nowhere, Schwartzman got both breaks back to get to 4-4, earning two break points to give himself a chance to serve for the set.

Quickly, the 18-time Slam titlist earned another break to move to 5-1. "He is a player who is making big steps forward, so it will be another big challenge".

But it was the reaction of Woods, a victor of 15 golf majors, to an assortment of sensational Nadal winners during a crucial section of the match that caught the eye at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
