Stansted-based Ryanair seeks to stop pilots from striking

The High Court ruling means IALPA/FORSA members won't be able to go on strike tomorrow and Friday.

The airline said: "Ryanair calls on the Fórsa union, and this small minority of very well paid Irish pilots, to return to mediation under Mr Keiran Mulvey".

All Ryanair flights scheduled to depart on Thurs 22 & Fr 23 form Irish airports will now operate as normal and passengers should arrive at their departure airport 2 hours prior to their scheduled departure time.

The Irish Airline Pilots' Association (IALPA) had submitted a 30-page proposal to Ryanair management in March of this year, which sought pay levels and structures it says are in line with sector norms.

The High Court has granted Ryanair's application for an injunction to stop this week's strikes by 180 of it's Dublin-based pilots.

The workers wanted to strike in a row over pay.

A strike by Portuguese cabin crew working for budget airline Ryanair is causing little impact, with only some minor delays reported.

Belgium's CNE and ACVPULS trade unions told members not to comply with a Ryanair request to work on flights affected by the Portuguese strike.

Balpa said Ryanair was relying on "legal technicalities" to persuade the court to block the strike.

Balpa general secretary Brian Strutton had also said on Tuesday that it was "worrying" to see Ryanair continuing to sell tickets for the days when strikes could occur.

"Because Ryanair has wasted time with unnecessary court action, their chance to resolve the dispute involving their pilots has been lost".

He had asked if passengers would receive compensation, and should be told "exactly where they stand".

Fiona Cincotta, a senior market analyst at City Index, said being granted the injunction could further damage the airline's relationship with pilots and the union.
