UGA No. 3, Clemson No. 1 in AP Preseason Top 25

ESPN's Bill Connelly chose to rank the most important players in the College Football Playoff chase heading into the 2019 season. Oklahoma State and West Virginia received three points each (42nd overall).

As you can see, the most "important" players in college football are the quarterbacks of the College Football Playoff contending teams that are not on Alabama, Clemson or Georgia - the three most proven teams.

- The ACC and the SEC are well represented at the top of The Associated Press Top 25 college football rankings.

Michigan will have a tough task as already they have six ranked opponents on their schedule: Notre Dame, Iowa, Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Ohio State.

The Crimson Tide, coming off a 44-16 loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoff championship, is No. 2. The Sooners have been ranked seventh or higher 43 times. The preseason poll was started in 1950.

Oklahoma has been a mainstay in the Preseason AP Top 10 the past two decades, beginning the season among the top-10 teams in 17 of the past 19 seasons.

Iowa State is a darkhorse in the conference. Only one other Big 12 team made the Preseason AP Top 25. Five from the Big Ten made the top 25.

OU opens the 2019 season by hosting Houston on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m. CT at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. And it looks like they will continue to do so this season.
