Danny Trejo Helps Save Baby Trapped in Overturned Car

Speaking at the scene at the intersection of Hubbard Street and Jackman Avenue in the Sylmar neighborhood, Trejo said the crash occurred around 3 p.m. after a sedan driver ran a red light and struck a Ford Explorer.

He told KCAL 9 he first attempted to help the driver of the SUV, but she told him to help her special needs grandchild, who was trapped in the backseat. I couldn't unbuckle the seatbelt so she got in and undid the seatbelt. So he screamed "superpowers" and we started yelling 'superpowers.' I said 'do this, with the muscles.' He said 'muscles.' We got kind of a bond. Trejo was then able to pull the child to safety.

"If he wasn't wearing his auto seat, I think he would have died", he said.

Video from the scene shows the actor animatedly relaying what had happened while an investigating officer took notes. Trejo says he crawled into the wrecked vehicle from one side but couldn't unbuckle the child's auto seat from that angle. Another bystander, Monica Jackson, helped him and the two were able to save the child.

He said his knowledge working with special needs children came in handy to help calm the trapped youngster's nerves. The child was said to be trapped inside of a vehicle that had overturned in a Los Angeles traffic collision on Wednesday. They were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

"And the only thing that saved that little kid was his vehicle seat, honest to God", he continued.

Trejo, who lends his voice to the upcoming Dora and the Lost City of Gold, is also set to appear in Rob Zombie's latest, 3 From Hell, which opens in September.

Outside of his film career, Trejo owns several successful restaurants: Trejo's Tacos, Trejo's Cantina, and Trejo's Coffee & Donuts. He is perhaps best known for his role in Spy Kids and Machete.
