Newcastle United Haven't Called Off Chase For Ligue 1 Star

The Mirror revealed on Sunday evening that Bruce has made a decision to put a stop to their reported pursuit of the former West Ham striker after splashing the cash on new arrivals Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton.

Head coach Steve Bruce told the club's official website: "Jetro brings a wealth of experience into the dressing room and I'm very pleased to have brought him here".

The English forward left St James' Park eight years ago, as he became the most expensive British player ever when Liverpool paid £35million for him but won't be offered a place back in the Toon under Bruce.

Earlier on Friday Newcastle announced the signing of Netherlands defender Jetro Willems on a season-long loan from Eintracht Frankfurt.

"He has all the attributes you would want in an attacking player, including lightning pace, so I'm sure he'll excite everybody".

The Premier League club have the option to sign the 25-year-old global left-back on a permanent deal at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

Today's matchday is 3 August and we have to see the game between Newcastle United and AS Saint-Etienne!

The Magpies are short in the goal department following the exits of Ayoze Perez and loanee Salomon Rondon, so new summer additions Saint-Maximin and also striker Joelinton need to deliver.

Gayle spent last season on loan at the Hawthorns, and proved to be a sensational signing as West Brom reached the semi-final of the Championship play-offs.
