Liverpool sign Adrian as backup to Alisson

Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has joined Club Brugge from Liverpool, the Premier League club have announced.

Liverpool had been in negotiations with the Belgians during the past week and are likely to receive a fee in the region of £6million, with add-ons, for the 31-year-old.

"I think this is the ideal solution for us in this moment, replacing talent and experience like for like", Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said of Adrian "With Ali and Simon, I felt like we had two No. 1s and in many ways we have repeated that with Adrian".

The 32-year-old made 125 Premier League appearances for West Ham during his time in the East End.

Mignolet joined Liverpool from Sunderland in 2013 but lost his place first to Loris Karius and then Alisson Becker.

"I'm very ambitious, I come here to try to win everything, to try to push Ali from the first minute and to make us better". I come here to fight for all the competitions.

Adrian becomes Liverpool's third signing of the summer window following the arrivals of highly-rated youngsters Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott but Klopp could yet dip into the market for another signing before the window closes on Thursday evening. We have many competitions ahead - we're going to fight for it and try to get them.

Having left West Ham this summer, Adrian was due to hold talks with Real Valladolid, but stopped those negotiations once Liverpool made him an offer.

"We're all looking forward to working with him".
