Real Madrid sign Donny van de Beek

Amid all these complications, the board has chose to go for Ajax Amsterdam star Donny van de Beek.

Jose Mourinho is set for a shock return to Real Madrid, leaving Paul Pogba's wish to join the LaLiga giants up in the air, according to El Pais.

They insist the 22-year-old Dutchman, who played a starring role in Ajax reaching the Champions League semi-finals last season, will cost somewhere in the region of £60m - a much cheaper alternative to the £150m United are asking for Pogba.

But it has also seen him linked with a move away from the club.

Real's attention to Van de Beek as a plan B to Pogba was revealed on Friday, August 2, but it is understood that manager Zinedine Zidane was against such a move.

"They (Real Madrid) are in contact with Ajax, there is interest, I can't say anything else", he said after the game against Vitesse. There's more to it than what's in the newspapers, but you don't have to believe everything that is written. "I don't have to tell you what is and isn't true, but again, I'm focusing on Saturday [Ajax's Eredivisie season opener vs Vitesse] and the rest is up to you guys".

But that plan seems to have hit brick wall after reports from Spain claim that Real have agreed to sign Van de beek from Ajax.

"Of course we don't want to lose him, so he have to do all we can to keep him here".

"We did very well past year, so you know players will be wanted".

"We're a small football country". That's obvious. He's developed at a mega rate.
