Arsenal beat PSG, Napoli to sign Pepe from Lille

The Gunners had a £40m offer for Zaha dismissed by the Eagles earlier this summer, before they turned their attention to Pepe.

Nicolas Pepe joined his new Arsenal team-mates for his first training session on Friday, just 24 hours after completing a £72 million move to the Emirates.

The Gunners fought off strong competition from Napoli for the winger and it is believed they will pay an initial fee of £20m ($24m) up front before paying off the remainder of the £72m price tag over the five-years of Pepe's contract.

Arsenal new-boy Nicolas Pepe has revealed his excitement at the prospect of playing with Alexandre Lacazette, with the winger admitting it "will be an honour" to play alongside the French forward. It looks like Pepe has already bonded with them as they walked to the training pitch together.

Arsenal had been linked with a move for Pepe's Ivory Coast teammate Wilfried Zaha, but the club were unable to agree to a deal with Crystal Palace, who wanted £70m.

"Chelsea is a club that would be a dream for me", he said. "It was important to make the right decision and I am convinced that Arsenal is the right choice".

He then exploded into life in the his second term as his 22 league goals helped Lille to finish runners-up to PSG.

Arsenal's previous offer was worth that amount but Celtic were unhappy with the structure of the bid and want more cash upfront rather than in add-ons.

Emery has also brought in Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos on a season-long loan, beating rivals Tottenham to the player's services last month.

"Nicolas is a highly-rated and talented winger who was wanted by numerous top teams in Europe", Unai Emery told the club's official website.
