Joe Taslim to portray Sub-Zero in the Mortal Kombat movie

The reboot is supposedly targeting a theatrical release in early 2010, so you have until then to rewatch the original 1995 adaptation and, if you dare, the reviled sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Though details of the project have remained largely under wraps, cast and crew have slowly started to emerge as shooting, set to begin later this year, inches closer. While that casting is still up in the air, fans of the games finally now have their first confirmed casting news for one of the franchise's classic characters.

Though the Mortal Kombat game has been a huge franchise since its beginnings in 1992, the film's plot is still unclear.

We don't really know what to expect from this Mortal Kombat movie yet, but with James Wan onboard as producer, we should probably expect it to have a lot of gore.

Sub-Zero, everyone's favourite Frosty Ninja from the hit game series is probably one of the most played characters. Mortal Kombat and Disney's Masters of the Universe.

Aquaman co-writer James Wan (Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring 3) will produce, while Australian commercial director Simon McQuoid makes his feature-length directorial debut. However, Greg Russo penned a more recent draft of the script. Hopefully this will prove the skeptics wrong and confirm that Mortal Kombat can be just as good in cinematic form as in video game form.

Taslim's previous credits include The Raid, Fast & Furious 6, and Star Trek Beyond, among other roles in TV and movies.

Not much is known about the upcoming Mortal Kombat film, but it should be interesting to see if it'll focus more on the two deadly enemies. Still, Joe Taslim is the only casting confirmed now and James is eyeing various characters for the roles.
