Protesters Take to Streets in Washington DC During Trump's 4 July Speech

President Trump said his teleprompter suffered a malfunction Thursday when he referred to the Continental Army taking over airports during his July 4 speech in Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Secret Service says two people were arrested during a Fourth of July flag-burning incident on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House.

It took over the airports.

When asked on Friday about the gaffe, Trump said the poor weather conditions caused his teleprompter to malfunction.

He then sent social media into a frenzy when he spoke about how the USA army "manned the air" and "took over airports".

Trump is well known to stumble over written remarks, often filling the gaps with improvised observations before rounding back to the prepared text - sometimes with hilarious results.

Trump immediately went on to speak about the star-spangled banner flying at Fort McHenry, as if this historical anecdote was also about the Revolutionary War.

It will take place in front of the Lincoln Memorial and feature fireworks, a flyover by Air Force One and a display of tanks.

President Trump went on to say it wasn't a "good feeling" when that happened but he's such a good speaker he was able to make do.

Critics pointed out the rebels could not have seized airports more than a century before the first powered flight - credited to the Wright brothers in 1903 - took off. That battle at Fort McHenry was actually waged in 1812.

Why were the protestors opposing to Trump's speech on the 4th July?

"On this day, 243 years ago, our Founding Fathers pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to declare independence and defend our God-given right", he continued.

Pictures showed the crowd lined up around the memorial and down both sides of the reflecting pool toward the Washington Monument.

If you skip to 1:17:39 in the White House's video above, you can see the moment for yourself. "We are deeply moved to be in the presence this evening of gold star families whose loved ones made the supreme sacrifice", Trump added.
