'Multiple' injuries in gas explosion at USA mall: Authorities

Multiple people were injured in a gas explosion in the vicinity of a Florida shopping center on Saturday.

The explosion took place at The Fountains shopping center in Plantation, which is located north of Miami.

News footage and social media video showed firefighters arriving at the mall, where windows were blown out of an LA Fitness and the facade of a pizza restaurant appeared to be blown out.

The blast sent large pieces of debris about 100 yards across the street and left windows shattered.

The blast tore through The Fountains shopping center in Plantation, about six miles west of Fort Lauderdale, shortly before 11:30 a.m., fire Battalion Chief Joel Gordon told reporters.

At least 21 people have been injured after a vacant pizza restaurant exploded at a South Florida shopping plaza.

Fire officials say that of the 20 injured, two are seriously hurt.

The news site said that Plantation, Davie, Lauderhill, Coral Springs, and the Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue were all at the scene, and a triage area was set up. Witnesses said he had lost a lot of blood. "We thought it was a auto or a bombing because everything (the building across the street) disappeared".

Rescuers are still searching the area but they believe there were no fatalities.

Nearby roads have been shut down, and police have advised locals to avoid the area.

He said: 'A huge, huge bang, thump, almost, explosion.

"Everything just stopped. You didn't see anybody". "I've seen buildings blow up in the past but I've never seen it like this.it was just so much debris".

"It was a massive explosion like I have never experienced", he said.
