What Warriors’ Klay Thompson Told Steve Kerr After Reported ACL Tear

Friedell is a graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and joined ESPNChicago.com for its launch in April 2009. An MRI confirmed Klay suffered an ACL tear according to the Warriors PR via Twitter. He had 30 points in 32 minutes, going 8-for-12 from the field and pulling down five rebounds.

"I heard them talking", Klay's father, Mychal, said of the conversation. "I've said for a long time I want Klay to be a Warrior for life, and so this doesn't change anything as far as I'm concerned".

"But it's just - the way it's gone, I don't know if it's related to five straight seasons of playing 100-plus games and just all the wear and tear, but it's devastating".

As the commentary team pointed out, Thompson in fact had to return to take the free-throws or he wouldn't be allowed to return to the game for the rest of the night.

So he emerged from the tunnel, took his free throws and made both.

Thompson sustained the injury while attempting a fast-break dunk in the third quarter of Thursday's season-ending loss to the Toronto Raptors.

The two-time MVP sat on the court as Thompson had to be helped back to the locker room.

Thursday night marked the end of a dynasty for the Warriors.

Two years ago, Kawhi Leonard suffered an ankle injury against the Warriors that kept him out of the series and ultimately caused the chaos between him and the Spurs which put him on the Raptors to come back and beat them in 2019. Now Golden State must look to the future, and decide what to do with both players. He returned and was a stalwart for the beleaguered Warriors group throughout the series.
