Baby Cut Out Of 19-Year-Old Mother's Womb In US Dies

A baby boy who was cut out of the womb of his murdered teenage mother has died after weeks of fighting for his little life.

"It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of baby Yovanny Jadiel Lopez", the announcement said.

The baby's real identity was not revealed for three weeks, after police investigating Ochoa's disappearance conducted a DNA test on the baby and confirmed he was Ochoa's.

And Avila told reporters that he was notified overnight that the baby's condition had deteriorated, prompting him to call a Catholic priest, who came to the hospital to administer last rites at about 1am.

The baby's mother, Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, was 9 months pregnant when she was killed, which police believe happened on April 23 when she responded to a Facebook post offering free baby clothes. Police said the baby suffered severe brain damage and was unlikely to survive. On Friday, the family spokesperson announced that he died from severe brain injury.

Doctors wouldn't speculate on the baby's survival chances, but there was hope after he opened his eyes at the end of May. In March, she and Ochoa-Lopez connected on a Facebook page for pregnant women.

Ochoa-Lopez, ahigh school student, went to Figueroa's home at least twice this year after connecting through the Facebook group and accepting Figueroa's offer of baby items, Chicago police said.

The baby had been on life support since being taken to the hospital on April 23. The infant is attached to various tubes and appears to be asleep in his father's arms.

Prosecutors say 46-year-old Clarisa Figueroa claimed she had given birth to the baby when she took him to a hospital. "We're asking the prosecutor to bring murder charges against these three vicious, evil murderers and anybody else who helped them".

Once Ms Ochoa-Lopez stopped showing signs of life, Clarisa Figueroa cut the baby from her womb and she and her daughter wrapped the teenager's body in a blanket, put it in a plastic bag and dragged it outside to a rubbish bin, according to prosecutors.

The defendants in the case are due back in court June 26. She and her 24-year-old daughter are charged with first-degree murder.

She posted on the page again the following month, asking, "Who is due in May" and 'Where is the May mama's at'.

Authorities say that not long after Clarisa Figueroa's adult son died of natural causes, she told her family she was pregnant. Detectives on May 15 found Ochoa's body stuffed in a trash can at the Figueroas' home.

"Words really can not express how disgusting and thoroughly disturbing these allegations are", Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said last month.
