Iran increases enriched uranium production rate

"One can not expect an economic war to continue against the Iranian people and that those waging this war and those supporting it remain safe", Mohammad Javad Zarif said at a joint news conference in Tehran with his German counterpart Heiko Maas.

There is a speculation that the Japanese premier's visit to Tehran is aimed at playing a mediatory role between Iran and the U.S., Boroujerdi said.

"Yes, (the) production rate is increasing", he told a news conference when asked if enriched uranium production had accelerated since the agency's last quarterly report, which found Iran compliant with the nuclear deal as of May 20.

"By targeting this network we intend to deny funding to key elements of Iran's petrochemical sector that provide support to the IRGC", Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement. "Those who wage such wars can not expect to remain safe".

Less than two weeks ago, Abe hosted U.S. President Donald J. Trump in Tokyo for an official visit.

Most recently, the Trump administration sent U.S. warships to the Persian Gulf and continued to pile on even more sanctions.

Iran Press cited Zarif's remarks, "Iran and European Union both want to save JCPOA, they try to stop tensions and conflicts in the region, and both sides wanted Iranian people to be satisfied with the benefits of the agreement".

"If EU states maintain that JCPOA benefits Iran and EU ties as well as regional stability and peace, it should take practical steps to save the deal", IRNA quoted Rouhani as saying.

Speaking at a nuclear disarmament meeting in Stockholm, Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom said Washington's abandonment of the 2015 accord had been "very counterproductive" - threatening not just the Iran deal but the credibility of world powers in negotiating with North Korea.

Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi on Monday urged Europe and Germany to help preserve the Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Maas held talks with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on June 10 and is expected to also meet with President Hassan Rohani during his visit.

"We won't be able to do miracles, but we are trying as best as we can to do prevent its failure", Maas said. "The Iranian nation has proved during this period that it will resist against pressure and bullying", PressTV cited him as saying.

She added the USA would not support any payment mechanism that allowed countries or businesses to conduct transactions with sanctioned Iranian entities.

The IAEA has declined to say whether Iran is complying with its obligations, adding that it is up to the parties in the agreement to decide that.

"I am anxious about increasing tensions over the Iranian nuclear issue", Yukiya Amano of the International Atomic Energy Agency said.

He told the IAEA's Board of Governors it was essential that Iran fully implemented its commitments under the nuclear deal.
