Kim Jong-Un's Slain Half Brother Was Reportedly a CIA Informant

The Journal added that its sources also said Kim Jong Nam was likely in contact with Chinese security services.

The book, quoting "someone with knowledge of the intelligence", reports security camera footage from Kim Jong-nam's last trip to Malaysia showed him in a hotel lift with an Asian-looking man who was reported to be a U.S. intelligence agent.

Before his murder, North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un's elder half brother Kim Jong Nam had become "an informant for the Central Intelligence Agency", a new book published on Tuesday states flatly.

Kim Jong Nam died after having his face smeared with the outlawed VX nerve agent at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on February 13, 2017 in a Cold War-style assassination that shocked the world.

South Korean and United States officials have said North Korean authorities ordered the assassination of Kim, who had been critical of his family's dynastic rule.

Trump did not divulge what was in the letter from Kim. So the weird life and death of Kim Jong Nam is likely to remain one of the many mysteries surrounding North Korea. The half brother was estranged from the Kim family after he was caught trying to travel to Japan with false passports in 2001.

In emails to a Japanese journalist obtained by North Korea's Chosun Ilbo newspaper in 2012, Kim suggested that the regime would collapse under his younger brother, who he said "resembles my grandfather", North Korean dictator and founder Kim Il-sung.

The Divinely Perfect Destiny of Brilliant Comrade Kim Jong Un, by Washington Post Beijing Bureau Chief Anna Fifield.

The book says that security camera footage from Kim Jong Nam's last trip to Malaysia showed him in a hotel elevator with an Asian-looking man who was reported to be a USA intelligence agent.

There was no official comment yet from Pyongyang on the allegation. It said Ki's backpack contained $120,000 in cash, which could have been a payment for intelligence-related activities, or earnings from his casino businesses. "I think North Korea, under his leadership", he said on Tuesday. Both were released from jail in March and April 2019 after the murder charges were dropped. Doan Thi Huong, a Vietnamese woman, was released in May.

"I don't know, I have not heard about that", the president said, before contradicting himself and assuring Kim Jong Un that his administration wouldn't do anything so underhanded.
