Could Dallas Keuchel make Braves' debut against Pirates?

Keuchel, who rejected the Astros' qualifying offer of $17.9 million this offseason in order to become a free agent, was unable to land any multiyear, multimillion-dollar offers that he and agent Scott Boras would agree to during the offseason. The Atlanta Braves are the winning team, signing Keuchel, as reported by Jeff Passan.

It was that way, as well, in April and May, but it took until nearly a week into June before Keuchel and the Braves finally joined forces, with the 31-year-old veteran reportedly agreeing to a contract Thursday evening. It's not impossible he will suit up for the Braves before the All-Star break, giving Atlanta a boost in a tightly contested N.L. East in which they now trail the Phillies by two games.

Interest increased beginning Monday, when the amateur draft started and a club signing him no longer had to give up one or two draft picks and possibly global signing bonus pool allocation.

Julio Teheran is 3-4 with a 3.28 ERA.

As far as his numbers, Keuchel owns a 3.77 ERA, posting 3.74 ERA over 34 starts for the Astros in 2018. He gets soft contact.

Keuchel, a seventh-round pick in the 2009 amateur draft, made his major league debut in 2012, when he posted a 3-8 record with 38 strikeouts in 16 games. Those are somewhat disappointing numbers after the lefty posted an ERA under 3.00 in three of the previous four seasons, including a 20-win campaign in 2015.

He remained with the club until he became a free agent following the conclusion of last season, and went 76-63 with a 3.66 ERA (484 ER/1,189.1 IP) in 192 games, 183 starts for the Astros.

"I think any team that gets a player of that stature is going to be fortunate", Snitker said when asked about Keuchel's potential arrival prior to Friday's series opener against the Miami Marlins.
