Iran is failing as nation after sanctions: US President Donald Trump

The agreement foresees lifting economic sanctions imposed on Iran in return for Tehran agreeing to limit its nuclear activity to peaceful and civilian purposes.

Pentagon officials believe Iran was behind recent attacks on oil tankers, a Saudi oil pipeline and the Green Zone diplomatic compound in Bagdhad, though the US hasn't published evidence for the claims.

He said relations with the Middle Eastern nation had improved since he came to power in 2016, and that Obama's "terrible deal" had allowed the state to become a "terrorist nation" during his time in the White House.

Abe welcomed Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on a visit last month, and has expressed support for the 2015 multinational accord restricting Iran's nuclear program that Trump's administration has rejected.

President Donald Trump said there's "always a chance" of the USA taking military action in Iran, though he'd prefer to engage verbally with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

"It's very clear Iran is lying", Netanyahu told former International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) leader Olli Heinonen, per the report. Tehran nevertheless promised to retaliate if the USA "dared" to attack Iran.

In another development, AFP said it learned from a Japanese government official that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will travel to Iran next week in the first such visit by a Japanese leader in more than four decades.

"The Europeans have so far failed to fulfill their commitments under the deal and.to protect Iran's interests after America's illegal withdrawal", Mousavi added in his statement, according to state TV.

But what can Abe and others possibly achieve when the Trump administration is hammering Iran with relentless economic warfare and Iran completely distrusts the current US administration, particularly after it unilaterally exited the Iran nuclear deal?

Speaking at a joint news conference in Tokyo with Trump in late May, Abe suggested he wants to make efforts to facilitate discussions between Washington and Tehran "so that things will not go wrong and lead to a military clash" in the Middle East. The U.S. also increased sanctions against Iran, particularly its metals industries. Abe's trip also serves the purposes of Japan, which relies on oil from the Middle East and seeks USA support for its pressing concerns in Asia, he added.

"They are failing as a nation, but I don't want them to fail as a nation".

"(Then) reduce ballistic activity and contain Iran regionally and we have a fourth objective which is peace in the region.
