Some Harvey Weinstein Accusers Spurn Proposed Settlement Ahead Of June 4 Hearing

Disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein and his former studio's board members have reached a tentative deal with women who accuse him of sexual misconduct, United States media report.

Reps for Weinstein, the NY attorney general's office, and a lawyer for the plaintiffs did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Harvey Weinstein is set to go on trial on September 9 on two counts of predatory sexual assault, one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree, and one count each of first-degree rape and third-degree rape.

The agreement, when finalized, would provide about $30 million to the plaintiffs, which includes not only those who have sued over sexual misconduct, but also former employees of the now-defunct Weinstein Company. Weinstein Company filed for bankruptcy past year.

Insurance companies, potentially including Chubb Limited and AIG, are expected to make the payment on behalf of the Weinstein Co., which filed for bankruptcy past year.

Allegations of abuse arose almost two-years ago in which dozens of women accused the movie mogul of acts ranging from sexual misconduct to rape.

It would also settle a civil lawsuit brought forward by the NY attorney general accusing Weinstein's movie company of violating labor laws by allowing the alleged abuse and harassment to continue unchecked. The settlement would cover many of them, including a class action by alleged victims and a suit by the NY attorney general.

"We now have an economic agreement in principle that is supported by the plaintiffs, the AG's office, the defendants and all the insurers", Adam Harris, an attorney for Weinstein, told a federal bankruptcy court in DE on Thursday.

Harvey won't actually have to pay the $44 million himself as insurance policies will cover the amount of the deal is approved, according to the New York Times.

Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has reached a multi-million dollar financial settlement with his alleged victims. He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges and vehemently denied allegations of rape.

A bankruptcy judge will decide on whether to approve the settlement June 4.

In October 2017, the New York Times published a story detailing decades of allegations of sexual harassment against Harvey Weinstein. "I think we're poised to get there".
