Tiger Woods in position to end 11 year drought

Tiger Woods in position to end 11 year drought

With poor weather forecast for Sunday's final round, organisers have taken the unprecedented step of moving play forward, with threesomes to tee off from both the 1st and 10th tees much earlier than normal. Officials hope that speeds up the finish to early afternoon, ahead of the rain.

Tiger Woods of the USA walks off the 17th green during third round play.

It has been an nearly flawless Masters for Molinari, who has carded just a single bogey through three rounds.

The former world number one winced and walked gingerly before trying to stretch it out for a few seconds and then got back to work as he fired a four-under-par 68 to sit one shot behind of the five co-leaders. Day also shot a 67.

Until now, Finau was best known at Augusta for dislocating his ankle a year ago while celebrating an ace in the par-3 tournament that precedes the Masters.

He was part of a history-making Saturday as one of three players to shoot 64.

"He obviously loves this place, and he's playing great golf", Molinari said. There are so many great players in with a chance. I wish I only had to worry about him.

Woods has won all 14 of his majors when he had at least a share of the lead going into the final round.

What followed was vintage Woods and brought back chilling roars harkening to his 1997 "Tigermania" first major win. "I wish I only had to worry about him", Molinari said of Woods.

Tiger Woods is in position to claim his first major title in 11 years, after a record-breaking third round of the Masters.

Woods had hit his ball well left of the fairway at Augusta National and played an excellent shot through the trees to the green.

The 43-year-old made the turn at 3-under par and carded the hard 11th hole's first birdie of the day. He was 7-under for the day through 15 holes which put him two shots behind the leaders.

Woods had played a sublime recovery shot from the pine straw immediately prior to that incident and duly converted his resulting birdie putt before picking up another shot at the 15th to get to six under.

Molinari, playing in the final group, kept right on rolling. It's working so well that Molinari goes into the final round having gone 43 consecutive holes without a bogey. He made two more bogeys before reaching the seventh hole, and then pulled himself together to salvage a 71.

"I was a little bit stiff when I came back out and started swinging again, but I was able to ratchet up the speed for 13 to just sort of go after it, " he said.
