Today, owner Jeanie Buss and head coach Luke Walton have mutually agreed to part ways, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The announcement comes three days after Magic Johnson stepped down as president of the club's basketball operations at the conclusion of a season where the team didn't make the playoffs after acquiring LeBron James. "We wish Luke and his family the best of luck moving forward".

Walton is rumored to be a candidate for the Sacramento Kings head coaching job immediately following the end of his tenure with the Lakers.

Walton's Lakers went 37-45 this season and rumors of a coaching change persisted throughout the disappointing year.

LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers past year to play for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Walton played in the National Basketball Association from 2003 to 2013, winning two National Basketball Association titles as a Lakers player.

The NBA Playoffs begin on Saturday and the Golden State Warriors are favorites to win it all again.

The Lakers improved their record in each of Walton's three seasons, but never finished higher than third place in the Pacific Division.

Rondo, who is on the sixth team of his career, praised Walton for his ability to relate to players. "They did everything right, I'll say that".

James played in 55 games this season and averaged 27.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game.

"He's been great for us", Fox said during the All-Star Break. Mid-season past year, the Cavs fired then-head coach Tyronn Lue.
