Wisden names Kohli again as best cricketer

Sam Curran, Jos Buttler, Rory Burns, Tammy Beaumont and Virat Kohli have been named as Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year.

Tamsin Beaumont, England's destructive opening batswoman, has been named one of the five Cricketers of the Year by Wisden on Wednesday.

Kohli, who scored only 134 runs during India's previous tour of England in 2014 showed great character and scored 593 runs during India-England five-test series a year ago at an average of over 59 and booked his place on the list.

Smriti Mandhana claimed the women's leading player award, completing a clean sweep for India, while Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan is the top Twenty20 player for a second year in a row.

The achievement of the Indian captain in being dubbed the leading world cricketer for the third consecutive year is unprecedented in the 156 years-old history of the publication - considered as the 'Bible of cricket'.

Curran scored 272 runs and took 11 wickets to be named man of the series in England's 4-1 win over India in September.

In 2018, showing his great ability and hunger for runs, the run machine scored 2,735 runs across all three global formats at an average of 68.37, which included 11 centuries and also won the ICC's cricketer award.

"It is a real honour to be named as one of Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year". Her brilliant form also saw her clock 421 runs in the Women's Super League with an astonishing strike rate of 174.68.

The 20-year-old Sam Curran came into limelight with his impressive performances both in domestic with Surrey and on the worldwide stage with England.

"In making hundreds in South Africa, England and Australia, as well as at home, he showed a mastery of all conditions and bowling attacks", Wisden said.
