Disney+ Price, Release Date, & More Exciting Details Announced

It will launch this November 12th and cost $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year.

We have known that Disney was planning to launch its own dedicated streaming service for quite some time. Beyond its own signature content - new and old, the firm owns major franchises such as Pixar, Marvel, National Geographic, ESPN and Star Wars, and has recently spent $70bn on 20 Century Fox.

The streaming service will offer a large selection of Disney library content as well as new original movies and TV series created specifically for Disney+. This includes all 30 seasons of The Simpsons (totalling more than 650 episodes), as well as at least the first episode of the new Star Wars show The Mandalorian. Disney CEO Robert Iger even gave the world its first glimpse at how the Disney+ app will look and work when it launches later this year. This is all on top of more than 7500 TV show episodes and more than 500 blockbuster movies, according to Disney.

People were pretty pissed when shows like The Punisher and Marvel movies were pulled from Netflix, but that was only so they could end up on Disney+.

The only weak link on the content side is some of the original programming planned for Disney+, which has a DVD extra quality to it.

Wall Street has pinned high hopes on the new service, which analysts expect would cost about US$7.50 monthly and lure about 7.2 million USA subscribers in 2020 and 13.66 million by 2021, according to a poll of analysts conducted by Reuters.

"High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" will also launch with the service. It'll also be available on day one, while The Magic of the Animal Kingdom will come within a year of the launch date.

Disney+ will be ad-free, supported exclusively by subscription fees, and available on as many platforms as possible: from disneyplus.com to smart TVs, connected streaming devices including Roku and PS4, and include offline viewing. Disney is late to the party and in its absence Netflix has built the world's leading streaming service with a near-global reach. In addition, Disney's absorption of Fox's entertainment assets provides "an unparalleled arsenal of IP to support its streaming services", Cucinello said. The story picks up six months after the original film and follows a character named Tylor Tuskmon (voiced by Ben Feldman), who is "an eager and talented young mechanic on the Monsters, Inc".

What If is happening: As reported last month, Marvel is adding an animated series, What If, based on the comics of the same name to the Disney+ series.
