Another Parkland school shooting survivor takes own life

A second Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student has died in what police are calling "an apparent suicide".

The news comes a week after the suicide of Sydney Aiello, who was a senior at the Parkland school when a former student infiltrated the campus and killed 17 people.

Reik said the student's name and personal information will not be released because he is still a juvenile.

Her mother, Cara, told CNN affiliate WFOR that Aiello suffered from survivor's guilt after one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern USA history and had recently been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Aiello's family told CBS Miami that she had struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder following the shooting back in February. Aiello was a friend of Meadow Pollack, one of the students killed in the attack.

Meadow's father, Andrew Pollack, told the Miami Herald that his "heart goes out to those poor, poor parents", referring to Sydney's parents.

Stoneman Douglas Principal Parkland Ty Thompson and Parkland Mayor Christine Hunschofsky directed people to the Broward County Resiliency Center in Pine Trails Park.

Aiello, who had already graduated, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Ryan Petty, whose daughter Alaina also died in the shooting, told WFOR-TV that he's been concerned about the toll PTSD might take on the survivors.

"It's bad what happened". Her mother, Cara Aiello, said that her daughter hesitated to ask for help, and she hopes that her story can help others get the support that they need.

A funeral for Aiello, who was a student at Florida Atlantic University, took place on Friday.

'Killing yourself is not the answer, ' he added. She later took her own life.

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24/7 to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress.
