Trump Is Fine With Releasing Mueller Report

Mueller will submit his findings to the Trump-appointed attorney general, who is not obligated to release the report. Some reporters are interpreting this to mean that Trump and his advisers are confident that it will be far less damaging than expected.

"Does the public have a right to see the Mueller report?" So, explain that, because my voters don't get it. And there is a way to call Trump's bluff on this, too. "Let people see it, that's up to the attorney general".

Lemire and Jalonick interviewed some White House officials and Trump allies who spoke on condition of anonymity-and found that if Mueller's final report shows no hard evidence of collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and the Russian government, Republicans might look for ways to "weaponize those possible findings for the 2020 race".

"No collusion, no collusion", Trump declared Wednesday.

In fact, more people now believe Trump's denials about collusion than trust Mueller - 30 percent expressed "a lot of trust" in the president's claims that his campaign did not collude with Russian Federation. "Tell me how that makes sense", he said.

There's a more pressing reason not to take this seriously, however.

Congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle have been concerned that they may see only portions of the report.

He added at the end of the tweet, "We will soon find out?" giving a nod to the recent reports that claim the special counsel is about to finish up his probe.

Andrew Kent, a professor at Fordham University School of Law, tells me that the real test will reside in how the White House reacts to that effort.

Voters also split over whether they support the president's denial that no collusion occurred between his 2016 campaign and Russian Federation, with 43 percent saying they had "a lot" or "some" trust in Trump's claim, compared to 52 percent who reported "little or no trust". He said he had no idea when it would be released. This figure is 5 percentage points lower than it was in 2018, suggesting that more people now are believing the president. "Will you commit in advance to declassify information that's contained in the Mueller report?" That's up to the attorney general.

Trump, of course, has railed relentlessly against the probe, deeming it a baseless "witch hunt", sometimes in all capital letters, and has said it was based on unfounded allegations perpetrated by his "deep state" enemies in the Department of Justice, as well as his foes in the Democratic Party and the media.
