Former Bengals guard Kevin Zeitler reportedly traded to Giants

Zeitler was available via a trade because the Browns believe he was also overpaid. The contract has $31 million remaining and Vernon's base salary will be $15.25 million in 2019, and he also will earn a $250,000 workout bonus. The pass rusher free agent class is very deep this offseason, meaning that the team will have many options as to who they could add to the roster, and the prices should stay relatively cheap. Vernon has 51 sacks in seven seasons, including seven previous year when he was named a Pro Bowler in NY.

Reports: Giants Trade Olivier Vernon To Browns For Guard Kevin Zeitler

The Browns ranked 24th in the league in sacks previous year.

Vernon was cast as an outside linebacker in New York's 3-4 defense and was an effective player, but he'll move back to being a defensive end for new Browns' defensive coordinator Steve Wilks. Who got the better end of the deal? . Getting a player like Zeitler is a huge coup for the Giants. Pro Football Focus has graded him as a top 10-overall guard three times in his seven-year career and he was their top rated pass blocking guard last season. Zeitler allowed just 11 quarterback pressures all season, while last year's primary right guards for the Giants (Jamon Brown and Patrick Omameh) combined to allow 39 pressures in 14 games. Such a move would allow NY to complete the re-build of their offensive line and focus their free agent resources and draft picks mostly on the defense. The Browns took significant steps toward that goal today. During an interview with 92.3 the Fan in Cleveland, NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabawala said the Browns had offered multiple players to the Giants in hopes of landing Beckham. The only thing preventing a concrete "A" grade for both is the relatively advanced age of both guys, with Zeitler turning 29 on Friday and Vernon set to turn 29 during next season.
