Twitter Reaction: Bryce Harper agrees to mega-deal with Phillies

One of the two highly sought free agents on the market this winter, with the other, Manny Machado, picking San Diego last week, Harper signed a 13-year, $330-million deal with the Phillies, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

Harper's deal is not as large as the five-year, $365 million contract that middleweight boxing champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez signed with the streaming service, DAZN, which will pay the native Mexican an average of $73 million annually. Rosenthal also adds Harper has a full no-trade clause and there is no deferred money.

A six-time All-Star, Harper hit.249 with 34 home runs, 100 RBI and 103 runs scored previous year in a career-high 159 games. Harper also had interest from the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"The way I view it, 10 years, 330 (million) would have been a good deal at 33 (million) a year". Harper will reportedly sign with the Philadelphia Phillies. He's hit 14 home runs at Citizens Bank Park, putting up a.564 slugging percentage.

"Harper could've signed a deal with the Phillies a long time ago", said Francesa.

Harper will see his former team very early in the 2019 season as the Phillies will play the Nationals in Washington on April 2. All eyes will be on his return to D.C.

After a surprise NL East title sparked mostly by home-grown young players, it felt like the right time to add key free agents to allow the Braves to build on their 90-win season.

But that eventually ran its course. In fact, Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio reports that the Phillies have offered Harper no more than $300 million and do not now have the highest offer on the table for him. The offer no longer was on the table after free agency opened without an agreement.

On Thursday afternoon the Bryce Harper sweepstakes officially came to an end.
