Porzingis was introduced to the media on Monday by the Dallas Mavericks, days after they pulled off a shocking trade with the New York Knicks to acquire him. The Mavericks also got Courtney Lee, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Trey Burke in the deal.
Latvian big man Porzingis, the number four pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, hasn't played since undergoing surgery to fix a torn left knee ligament last February.
But multiple teams interested in making an offer for Porzingis said that they were unable to do so before NY traded Porzingis to Dallas, league sources said. Nothing more. That may have provided disappointment, if Porzingis stayed, for those expecting his return before the 2018-19 season ended, but the Knicks weren't in contention, so it didn't make sense to return him. "Peace", Porzingis wrote on his Instagram account.
The move came after Knicks president Steve Mills said the organization had doubts that Porzingis was on board with its rebuild plan.
Clearly, the Knicks were happy with the return that they received for Porzingis, or at least you could assume that they are, otherwise they wouldn't have made the deal.
Porzingis, who will become a restricted free agent this summer, was asked if he plans to re-sign with Dallas. The Pelicans will likely not be interested in trading with the Knicks due to New York's lack of assets.
The Knicks were convinced no team beyond the Mavericks was willing to offer cap space, a young player with upside and future first round picks.
"I see two guys who are going to put their own signature on their positions", Nelson said.
Secondly, all four of the Bucks' starters outside of superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo are pending unrestricted free agents.
Now we're hearing some significant news about Porzingis' status that may have to do with his departure.
Porzingis averaged 22.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game before his injury last season (Feb. 6).
