Watch the video of Roger Stone being arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation

Today that prediction came true.

Stone was arrested early on Friday at his home during a massive Federal Bureau of Investigation raid in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Mueller may well have evidence of criminal coordination between Trump associates and Russian Federation that he has yet to reveal, but so far, he's focused repeatedly on those he believes have tried to throw federal or congressional investigators off the trail.

When asked if he expected a pardon from Trump, Stone said, "I don't answer hypothetical questions".

The 66-year-old favours three-piece suits and reportedly does not wear socks.

But who is the self-described "dirty trickster"?

Well-known for his political antics and hard-ball tactics, Mr Stone has reveled in being a Washington wheeler-dealer dating back to the Nixon administration. The indictment suggests that Mueller knows who those officials are and is examining the roles they played.

He became known for a series of political maxims, the most famous of which were: "Admit nothing, deny everything, launch counterattack", and "Attack, attack, attack - never defend".

Admit nothing, deny everything, launch counter-attack.

The worlds of Trump and Stone first collided in the 90s, when the future president was still a property mogul with a string of casinos that would soon file for bankruptcy.

Trump finally got round to that two decades later, announcing his bid in 2015.

Stone continued his campaign to persuade Credico to plead the Fifth Amendment and ultimately succeeded.

The indictment showed Stone using language evoking mob bosses - and even citing a "Godfather" movie - as he called an unnamed associate facing Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiries "a rat" and "a stoolie" in a series of profanity-laced messages.

Newcomers to the rough-and-tumble world of American politics might be shocked to discover that candidates and campaign operatives make conflicting statements from time to time.

Why is he in trouble with the law?

The interactions with WikiLeaks covered in the indictment occurred days before Trump called out to Russian Federation during a campaign stump speech for help finding "missing" emails from Clinton's time as secretary of state, according to Democratic U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff. Prosecutors say Russian military intelligence agents hacked the emails and then funneled them to WikiLeaks as part of Moscow's effort to disrupt the election.

Mr Stone is said to have spoken to senior Trump campaign officials - who are not identified - about "organization 1" [believed to be Wikileaks] "and information it might have had that would be damaging to the Clinton Campaign".

He was released on a $250,000 bond, but with restrictions allowing him to travel only for court appearances in Florida, Washington DC and NY.

Stone is also accused of making false statements to the House intelligence committee.

MSNBC's Joy Reid asked Nunberg, "Could it be Donald Trump?" referring to the "senior campaign official" from the indictment.

In that tweet, he said: "Wednesday @HillaryClinton is done". Stone then communicated with his associates about getting more information on potential WikiLeaks releases.

Stone declared his innocence and called the charges "politically motivated" after a court appearance in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was arrested by a heavily armed SWAT team in a pre-dawn raid. I will defeat them in court.

"There's no circumstance under which I would bear false witness to the president".

Why is it such a big deal?

Who's been charged in the Mueller probe?

"What about the fake and unverified 'dossier, ' a total phony con job, that was paid for by Crooked Hillary to damage me and the Trump campaign?"

The indictment has shed more light on the lack of any link between WikiLeaks and Trump's associates, the whistleblower website said in a tweet, dismissing the earlier claims as "braggadocio".

He noted that Mueller made a point of portraying WikiLeaks as an organisation that has repeatedly been involved in posting stolen documents from U.S. citizens. The campaign said it fired him after he tried to grab too much of the spotlight. "The other, I think very real possibility, is he just finds a cover-up".
