'SNL' star Pete Davidson jokes about his public threat to harm himself

His television appearance came hours after an alarming message in a since-deleted Instagram post: "I really don't want to be on this earth anymore".

"I didn't actually realize that you guys hung out together", Jost said to Davidson and Mulaney.

And Pete Davidson seemed to be in great spirits in NY following the first filming of Saturday Night Live in the new year. "A sober, domestic life", Mulaney said.

Davidson has evidently not lost any of his twisted wit in the process, though, because he responded to say, "Yeah, and after observing John's life, I publicly threatened suicide.I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't make that joke".

Pete Davidson appeared to be back in fine form on "Saturday Night Live", jumping back on the "Weekend Update" desk after what he called his "really insane month".

The last time Davidson appeared on the show was a brief cameo introducing Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson on December 15.

If you're like me, you'll probably love this segment, in which Mulaney and Davidson go on a rant about Clint Eastwood's latest movie, Mule.

In the course of the review, fans learn a few new nuggets, like Mulaney's allegation that Andy Garcia was once "rude" to him at a Lakers game (which Davidson remembers) and how astounded they are that Eastwood could eat ice cream and drive simultaneously at 90. The Big Mouth actor later shared a sweet photo of him and Davidson at the conclusion of the show.

Davidson, who has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, has been vocal about his mental health struggles and about the harassment he's faced since breaking off an engagement with pop star Ariana Grande in October.

Last month, after facing a torrent of backlash for weighing in on an online controversy involving his ex, Ariana Grande, Davidson made a social media post that suggested he could be suicidal.

"Yeah, people usually think he's like an National Basketball Association coach and I'm like the controversial rookie", Davidson told Jost.
