Netflix announces reboot of true crime show 'Unsolved Mysteries'

The streaming service announced creators from the original show have teamed up with producers from the Netflix smash "Stranger Things" for the modern reboot.

As with the original series, investigators will be looking to the viewers for help in solving cases. Each episode will focus on one mystery.

In the original series, actors played victims, criminals, witnesses, family members and police - all interviewees, in keeping with the reenactment structure.

It's unclear who will take over for beloved actor Robert Stack. After it was canceled, the series ran on CBS for two years, followed by a few new episodes in 2001-2002 on Lifetime.

The production company behind the original series, Cosgrove-Meurer Productions, will be working alongside Netflix and 21 Laps Entertainment, according to Deadline.

Shawn Levy and Josh Barry are executive producing for 21 Laps, with Robert Wise serving as co-executive producer / showrunner.

Terry Dunn Meurer is showrunning this all-new version of the show she co-created with fellow executive producer John Cosgrove.

Levy is in his third season of Stranger Things, but he's also known for directing Arrival (2016), the Tim Allen-driven TV sitcom, Last Man Standing, Real Steel (2011) and the Night at the Museum franchise.
