Ronaldo secures Italian Super Cup glory for Juventus

Cristiano Ronaldo guided Italian champions Juve to a 1-0 win over rivals and 10-man AC Milan in Saudi Arabia.

But it was the moments which followed his goal that was the real hair-raiser.

The win over AC Milan was also Juventus' first success in the competition since 2015 having lost the two previous Suppercoppa finals.

Ronaldo - signed by the Italian giants past year from Real Madrid as they target a first Champions League title since 1996 - headed in a 61st-minute victor.

Speaking ahead of his side's Italian Super Cup clash with Juventus on Wednesday, Gattuso was quizzed about the 31-year-old's future at San Siro.

Striker Gonzalo Higuain was dropped to the Milan bench amid media rumours of an imminent move to Chelsea, with some pre-match reports suggesting he was struggling with a fever.

"It was a very difficult match, it's very warm and hard to play in these conditions", Ronaldo told Rai Sport.

"I have my first title with Juventus so I'm happy", said the Portuguese star who now has 28 trophies including five Champions League and league titles from England and Spain, and a European Championship with Portugal.

"We have to take it step by step", Ronaldo continued.

Congratulations to Paulo DYBALA!

"Serie A is always Juve's main objective", Ronaldo added.

Juventus had another goal disallowed for offside but any chance Milan had of getting back into the match all but evaporated after midfielder Franck Kessie was sent off in the 74th following a poor tackle on Emre Can, which saw him stamp on the Juventus midfielder.

Higuain joined the Rossoneri on loan last summer for an 18 million euro fee, with a purchase option set at 36m euros.

There were furious protests from Milan late on when their appeals for a penalty were ignored after Can challenged Andrea Conti inside the box.
