Israel determined to take further action against Iran in Syria - Israeli PM

The latest tunnel, found on Saturday, began in the Lebanese village of Ramyeh, some 800 metres (yards) away from Israel, the army said.

"The accumulation of recent attacks shows that we're more determined than ever to act against Iran in Syria, just as we promised".

The IDF said the operation "removed the threat from the citizens of Israel". According to Al-Hadath TV channel, the Israeli planes attacked Iranian military warehouses near the airport, which are used by the Hezbollah militias, fighting on the side of the government's army.

Lt Col Conricus said: "We have achieved the goal that we set out to achieve a month and a half ago".

Israel has called on the global community to impose tough sanctions on Hezbollah and act against the state within a state operation in Lebanon.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday confirmed his nation destroyed Iranian weapons caches in Syria's Damascus airport during airstrikes over the weekend.

Eisenkot also said Israel needed to focus on Iran as opposed to secondary enemies such as Hamas in Gaza.

Israel and Hezbollah last fought a war in 2006.

Interestingly enough, the signal's power source is reportedly located close to a site where the Israel Defense Forces have been trying to eliminate secret tunnels, believed to have been dug by Hezbollah from Lebanon to Israel. But with that civil war winding down, Israeli security officials fear Hezbollah is refocusing its attention on Israel.

Hale's visit came ahead of the global summit that will take place in Poland on February 13 and 14 "to counter Tehran's regional influence", according to a statement made by Pompeo two days ago.

"Hezbollah's operational plan was to use the tunnels weapon to infiltrate many fighters, between 1,000-2,000 terrorists, into the Galilee to seize communities here".

The announcement that the operation is ending comes as military chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot steps down at the end of his term.

In an interview with The New York Times, the general said that Israel had carried out attacks on "thousands of [Iranian] targets without claiming responsibility or asking for credit".

"We'll continue our engineering actions along the border and tracking Hezbollah's underground activities".

He pledged continued support for the Lebanese military and security forces and said that while Lebanon has the right to defend itself, "that is the right of the Lebanese state alone".
