Kimberly-Clark announces tampon recall throughout U.S., Canada

The tampons were distributed to stores across North America over the last two years, between October 17, 2016 and October 23, 2018.

Kimberly-Clark has voluntarily recalled its "U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, Regular Absorbency" products that were sold throughout the United States and Canada.

Certain Kotex tampons are being recalled after some users reported that the product unraveled or came apart, and in some cases, resulted in "pieces left in the body" that required medical attention, according to a new recall announcement. There have also been reports of infections, vaginal irritation, localized vaginal injury, and other symptoms. A full list of recalled lot numbers is on the U by Kotex website.

Consumers experiencing vaginal injury or symptoms like hot flashes, nausea or vomiting after using the product should seek medical attention immediately. Central time Monday through Friday.

In an online FAQ, Kimberly-Clark said it was taking steps to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future, though its plan is worded vaguely.

"Retailers have been alerted to remove the recalled lot numbers from shelves and post a notification in their stores", the company said, adding no other "U by Kotex-branded products are subject to this recall".

Only specific lot numbers are impacted.

Consumers who have been affected by the recalled products can call the Kimberly-Clark Consumer Service team at 1-888-255-3499 between 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
