May in fight for her political future ahead of Commons Brexit vote

The cross-party report comes days before the Commons is due to vote on the proposed deal on Tuesday.

Senior officials on both sides of the EU-U.K. negotiations on May's deal have voiced skepticism to Reuters about the "Norway pivot" idea, saying it seems far removed from British demands for more control over rules and could need lengthy new talks.

A defeat would sink the agreement, leaving the United Kingdom facing a messy "no-deal" Brexit, and could topple May and her government.

Saying it is a "myth" there is no alternative to the backstop, the former foreign secretary told Marr: "The real problem with the backstop is that it gives the power to Brussels and all the other European Union member states effectively to blackmail us and get what they want out of the future trade negotiation".

An analysis by Britain's Press Association showed that just 27 of the 163 lawmakers who have spoken out indicated they would back the deal, compared with 122 - including 29 from May's own Conservative Party - who say they will vote against it.

Jeremy Corbyn has said there could be a People's Vote on Brexit and has not ruled out Remain being on the ballot paper.

In November, the United Kingdom agreed a Brexit deal with the European Union, however, it still needs to be approved by the Parliament.

However, her Brexit minister Stephen Barclay told the BBC on Sunday that May will push ahead with the vote.

Theresa May is said to be weighing a plan to postpone the crunch vote on her Brexit deal in an attempt to avoid a landslide defeat that would risk a major United Kingdom political crisis.

Theresa May has warned Tory MPs they risk handing Jeremy Corbyn the keys to Number 10 unless they back her Brexit deal.

"Those left behind communities that voted Leave did so for a reason, because they were fed up with the way they were being treated by the economic norms of this country and indeed other places".

Meanwhile, former Brexit secretary Dominic Raab was keen to tell Ridge's viewers he expects May's deal to be voted down by MPs on Tuesday, calling it a "lousy deal for the United Kingdom" that offers "incredibly good terms for the EU".

"If we go into government straight away we would start negotiating straight away".

"My undertsanding is that we will have a vote on Tuesday and we are looking to win that vote", Kwarteng told Sky News.

May said rejecting her deal would also risk the opposition Labour Party getting into power.

The 69-year-old added that another referendum was not an "automatic right" and would have to be agreed by Parliament, and that the original referendum could not be "re-run" as this would be "met with a lot of dismay from a lot of people" who would feel that their original decision was not being accepted.

But Johnson used a column in the Sun on Sunday to argue that "the best way to get a great deal is to prepare for no deal" by rejecting May's draft.
