Britain Must Talk Further about How to Leave EU: Merkel

European Union leaders are due to meet in Brussels on Sunday to rubber-stamp the declaration and a separate divorce deal.

The Prime Minister updated around 50 representatives from Northern Ireland businesses, universities and the voluntary and community sector on the draft Brexit deal at a reception, also attended by David Lidington, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, and the Business Secretary Greg Clark.

Existing travel links by plane, train and road will also be preserved beyond the Brexit transition.

Many observers have said it is unlikely the British Parliament will vote in favor of the Brexit 585-page deal British Prime Minister Theresa May presented last week leaving open the question of how a no-deal Brexit would affect both the United Kingdom and the EU.

The political declaration was agreed upon at a technical level by negotiators and endorsed Thursday by the European Commission, the EU's executive arm, which is overseeing Brexit negotiations.

"It is my view that the parliament, the House of Commons, will stop no deal".

But Dominic Raab, who quit as Brexit Secretary over the agreement, said: "The top reason people voted to leave the European Union was to take back democratic control of our laws".

"The British people want this to be settled, they want a good deal that sets us on course for a brighter future".

"I'm thinking about getting a deal through that delivers on the people of this country".

British critics of the deal believe it binds Britain too closely to Europe-wide regulations while leaving it with no say in formulating those directives.

The new text calls for an "ambitious, broad, deep and flexible partnership" covering trade, law enforcement, foreign policy, security and defence, which could take the form of a Ukraine-style Association Agreement.

DUP lawmaker Sammy Wilson said the votes were "designed to send a political message to the government: Look, we've got an agreement with you but you've got to keep your side of the bargain".

While Raab insisted that "he's not advocating staying in the European Union", he argued that "if you just presented me terms, this deal or European Union membership, because we would effectively be bound by the same rules but without the control or voice over them, yes, I think this would be even worse than that".

The Prime Minister said she'd make a secerate statement to the Houses of Parliament later Thursday afternoon.

Sanchez previously said Spain would vote against the Political Declaration as it is not happy with the clause regarding Gibraltar's future relations with the EU.

EU-UK ties after Brexit transition period can be extended for up to one or to two years.

Unlike the much-discussed issue of avoiding a hard border on the island of Ireland, not much has been said publicly about Gibraltar during tense months of Brexit talks.

This is technically correct, but that's because the withdrawal agreement is not created to address our future trade relationship with the EU (which could involve a customs union).
