FBI Used Fingerprints in Mail Bomb Case Arrest

A male suspect was arrested in Florida on Friday morning in connection with the rash of suspicious packages sent to prominent Democrats nationwide, law enforcement sources confirmed to Fox News.

In addition to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the NYPD and the U.S. Postal Inspector Police are on the scene.

The FBI said a package, "similar in appearance to the others" found this week, was addressed to Booker and located in Florida.

The new packages, which resemble those containing explosive devices previously sent to figures including former president Barack Obama and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, were located in DE and NY.

President Donald Trump hit out at "lowly rated CNN" and other media outlets in a Twitter posting after 3 a.m. on Friday, saying they've falsely suggested he's to blame for a string of pipe bombs mailed to his political adversaries.

Cesar Sayoc, the man suspected of sending at least a dozen parcel bombs to high-profile critics of President Donald Trump, is a 56-year-old registered Republican in Florida with a lengthy criminal history, according to public records.

So far, law enforcement agencies have detected eight explosives-laden suspicious packages sent to high-level current and former officials including Obama, former vice president Joe Biden and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

One thing is for sure: the two new targets announced Thursday, are also very hostile to Trump: the actor starred Robert de Niro, who is seen to send a spacecraft potentially explosive through the offices of his production company, has participated in many demonstrations anti-Trump. Officials are trying to determine if the sender or senders was trying to sow fear or actually cause physical destruction.

Clapper said anyone who has criticized Trump should take extra precautions when handling their mail, adding: "This is not going to silence the administration's critics". Brennan advises Trump to "try to act Presidential".

Three more devices were linked to the plot Thursday - two addressed to former Vice President Joe Biden and one to actor Robert De Niro - bringing the total to 10 in an outbreak of politically loaded menace with little if any precedent.

A federal law enforcement source told Reuters the devices were thought to have been fashioned from bomb-making designs widely available on the internet.

Former CIA Director John Brennan, the target of one package sent to CNN, fired back. The one discovered at a Manhattan postal facility was addressed to Clapper c/o CNN.

He told the news channel, where he works as an analyst, that the incidents were "serious" and "definitely domestic terrorism".

The FBI said Friday that a package addressed to Sen.

But the twin discoveries led to other undetonated devices being found elsewhere, including in the mailroom at CNN's NY headquarters and a district office of the Florida Democratic congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

"This is at a torrid level that is just unpalatable", New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday.

"I'm extremely grateful to the fearless women and men in law enforcement who swiftly apprehended this suspect and are working tirelessly to keep us safe", Wasserman Schultz said in a statement Friday.

Most of those targeted were past or present US officials, but one was sent to actor Robert De Niro and billionaire George Soros.

The packages stoked nationwide tensions ahead of the November 6 election to determine control of Congress - a campaign both major political parties have described in near-apocalyptic terms.

An FBI investigation remains ongoing.

The list of bombing targets spread from New York, Delaware and Washington, D.C., to Florida and California.

CNN's New York City offices at the Time Warner Center were evacuated Wednesday when a similar device was sent there addressed to Brennan, an NBC News commentator. Wasserman Schultz teared up as she described the bravery of her staff in dealing with the bomb addressed to Holder that was delivered to the office.

Authorities appealed to the public for tips at a Thursday afternoon news conference in NY. DOJ officials are set to brief reporters this afternoon. De Niro says he is thankful no one was hurt.

The first crude bomb to be discovered had been delivered Monday to the suburban NY compound of George Soros, a liberal billionaire and major contributor to Democratic causes.
