Thanks to Aston Martin's title sponsorship of Red Bull Racing, Ricciardo was handed the keys to a new DB11 Volante to play around in for a lap of the Circuit of the Americas.

Ricciardo's race last just eight laps until he pulled over at the side of Turn 11 with a terminal auto problem.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes it is "ironic" that Renault's current engine components are continually failing for Daniel Ricciardo, given the fact that the Australian is set to leave Red Bull for the works team of the French manufacturer next season.

'It was an identical issue to that which he had in Bahrain where it was a complete shut down.

Ricciardo has already committed to a post-season switch to rivals Renault amongst rumours about his relationship with Red Bull.

To add to his disappointment, Ricciardo's team-mate Max Verstappen went on to finish second and just behind race-winner Kimi Raikkonen.

Christian Horner was full of praise for Max Verstappen after the Dutchman's incredible drive through the field in the United States Grand Prix, with the twenty-one-year-old climbing from eighteenth on the grid to finish second. "We've got another energy store within the allocation without having to take a penalty".

"He doesn't blame the [Red Bull] team in any way, he knows we are doing everything we can, it's just one of those things". Today he's driven an unbelievable race.

It continued Ricciardo's tough spell and means he has still not been back on the podium since winning May's Monaco Grand Prix.

"I think both guys can be strong in Mexico".

"We are hoping that with the altitude of Mexico it will concertina the engines a bit", said Horner.

Max Verstappen too has had his fair share of issues in 2018, retiring four times overall.
