This will be the more affordable phone in the series, although at the time of writing Huawei had not revealed how much the phone will cost in the UK. However, as is typically the case with Porsche Design smartphones, some major changes have been made over on the rear. The underpinnings, however, remain the same more or less.
Along with the chipset, the devices in the Huawei Mate 20 series feature top-tier specs in most other categories.
The Mate 20 has a 6.53-inch 2,244x1,080 HDR LCD, giving it an 18.7:9 aspect ratio.
"With the Mate 20, Huawei is setting the bar for what users can expect from photography using a smartphone", Cozza said.
Finally, there will be a Porsche Design edition of the Mate 20, just like with the Mate 10 and the P20 (sold as the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS). This is because of curved edges of display on the former.
This year, Huawei raised the prices of both core models, which was expected, especially when you consider the introduction of the Kirin 980 and the camera improvements. On the other hand, the Mate 20 features a 12-megapixel standard camera, a 16-megapixel wide-angle camera and the same 8-megapixel telephoto camera. As you can see, they sport triple-lens configurations like the spring's P20 Pro, and they go up to 40 megapixels.
Both the phones are powered by HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset, which is based on the 7nm process. When the clock strikes 9, all you have to do is click on the video below. Under the hood is a Kirin 980 processor coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The Mate 20 Pro has an iPhone-style cutout that allows for three-dimensional face unlock. So the hybrid SIM card tray can accommodate either a nanoSIM card or a Nano Memory Card apart from the primary NanoSIM.
Unlike the Pro version, the Mate 20 lacks wireless charging. Its fast charging was also upgraded, capable of adding up to 1 percentage point of battery life in 30 seconds.
However, no details mentioned in recent leaks have been confirmed by Huawei.
Oh, and did I mention the Huawei Watch GT? The watch runs Huawei's own LiteOS operating system and features a 1.39-inch Amoled display. It also comes with the usual sports mode, which calculates the number of calories you've burned. The differences include a larger 7.1-inch display, vapour chamber with graphene film cooling (similar to the Poco F1) and a 5,000mAh battery. The Mate 20 Pro will start at €1,049 ($1,217) in Europe, which is cheaper than the iPhone XS in the region but on par with Samsung's Galaxy Note 9. We don't know if there will be larger storage sizes in future.
