"In his career, he played like a No. 10 and on the right coming in with his quality", Emery said.

Ozil was substituted by Emery in Arsenal's second game of the season away to Chelsea and left out due to illness a week later for the Spaniard's first win in charge at home to West Ham.

Arsenal striker Alex Iwobi is hoping to play a role in the Gunners English Premier League clash against Newcastle on Saturday.

'After two weeks, after two months and now, I can say that I am very happy with him because he is 32 years old but I think physically, with his performances with us in matches, he is playing with a very good level.

The midfielder was criticised for posing for photographs with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the build-up to the World Cup, which saw 2014 champions Germany knocked out at the group stage.

The Gunners confirmed the arrival of both players alongside Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Aaron Ramsey and Lucas Torreira who were on worldwide duty.

Emery admitted Ozil's first worldwide break since his retirement will have been a hard adjustment for the player, but that the pair have been able to spend beneficial time on the training ground together.

"Mesut, like other players, works very well here and [is] also working. together to improve things".

Emery, however, has called for focus from his men and has backed Arsenal to continue to impose their "personality" on matches.

Chief executive Ivan Gazidis' future looks less certain, though, with AC Milan having re-opened negotiations with him.

Emery insists he has had no talks about Gazidis leaving. He is very convinced about that in my conversations with him about it. However, I think we'll see him keep his place at the heart of midfield this weekend.
