"That's a awful photo that I was unaware was being taken, much less posted".
It was troubling enough that Gustin took to Instagram to address the leaked photo of his season five costume and, in his post, he not only explained that the suit itself wasn't in final form but also spoke out about those who had resorted to body shaming.
The 28-year-old adds, "As far as the body shaming. That's what pisses me off", Gustin said.
The Flash doesn't appreciate body shaming. It's a awful photo that I was unaware was being taken, much less being posted. "But there's a double standard where it's ok to talk s-- about a dudes (sic) body".
Gustin went on to say that he's "naturally thin" and has tried to "stay in shape and add as much size as I can throughout these seasons".
He continued, "I'm naturally thin, and my body is greatly affected by stress". "Stress is something that ebbs and flows for me throughout a season".
A more complete version will star alongside Gustin when The Flash returns to the CW on October 9.
The Flash actor said he is happy with the way he looks.
Gustin then concluded, "I love the suit that has been designed for me, and I think when everyone sees it in its entirety, you will love it too".
The Jurassic World actor, who would share his snack of the day on social media, took on shamers by calling them out in a amusing message. And for what it's worth, we just can't wait to see what unbelievable upgrades Barry is going to get with his season 5 suit.
Several commenters pointed out that Gustin's slight frame was just right for his character: "Considering that it is explicitly stated on The Flash that Barry burns through calories at an incredible rate, isn't it logical that he should be portrayed by a thin actor?" What's more, he loves being able to be a superhero so that other kids with bodies like his can see a representation of their body type onscreen and feel like they, too, can be a superhero. 'Not only that, but they should be able to feel like THEY could be a superhero on tv or film or whatever it may be someday'.
