It has often been Tottenham Hotspur's way to try to do their business late in the transfer window but that tactic might have backfired this time, with a move for the Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish in jeopardy last night. The club made a massive effort to try to extend contracts with people like Harry Kane.
"If you can't add a player that can improve your squad, the most important thing is to make sure you do not lose your best players and I think that was a great job from the club to keep the best players and the manager".
'We didn't sell players and with 25 players in the squad it is hard to add players.
The north Londoners might not have any new arrivals to grace their team this season, but the Argentine is content to work with the squad that helped them to finish third last term.
"We have a very good squad, with very good players and it is very hard to add players to that", Pochettino added.
"We believe a lot in our players and there's no point now to say 'why not repeat a similar season like past year or the season before, and with more experience?'"
The likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Jan Vertonghen, Kieran Trippier and Hugo Lloris only started their pre-season training over the past two weeks but Pochettino is hopeful they will be able to play some part against Newcastle on Saturday.
"I am happy with the squad, happy with the players".
"We have a lot of players". To keep our best players was our objective and goal and we have achieved that - at the moment, we will see what happens in the next 20 days in Europe.
"It's not about adding because it's fashionable to sign players".
"I don't like to talk about the players who are with other teams".
"Newcastle of course in this period have an advantage to us in their preparation with the whole squad, but that is not a reason to complain".
With their new stadium now completed, their first game of the new Premier League season is away against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.
