Houston Astros right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday, a day after he left his start against the Los Angeles Dodgers with elbow discomfort. McCullers returned to Houston on Sunday morning to get a more detailed examination from team doctors. Osuna is coming off a 75-game suspension. Osuna's attorney has said he hopes for a resolution to his case leading up to or shortly after that September 5 court date in Ontario.
Osuna still faces a court case in Toronto, stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident earlier this season, and after Monday's appearance hinted that a change of scenery and the game itself offered a respite.
Osuna is expected to become the Astros' closer, and the team made an announcement to defend their decision Sunday shortly after activating him.
"On August 4th, Roberto Osuna willfully and successfully completed his Major League Baseball domestic violence program requirements", the statement began. The information regarding this specific incident weighed heavily on our decision but when evaluating the entirety of the information, we felt that Roberto deserved a second chance.
"At this point, we don't know what's happened, what's going to happen and we have to wait for that to play out", Osuna said through a translator.
Reliever Roberto Osuna, acquired last week by the Astros in a controversial trade-deadline deal, showed no signs of jitters Monday in his debut against the Giants in San Francisco.
