"World's Ugliest Dog" dies less than a month after winning title

Owner Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota, told NBCs Today that Zsa Zsa died in her sleep Tuesday.

"She is just so ugly, she's attractive", Brainard told the New York Times last month.

Its upper teeth were nearly horizontal and it also had a pronounced underbite.

THE world's ugliest dog has died.

At the time, Brainard said in an email to CNN that Zsa Zsa - who has two fur brothers, a pug and a Frenchie - owed her impressive tongue to her nearly horizontal upper teeth and heavily pronounced underbite, which made it hard to keep the pink, fleshy mass in her mouth.

Brainard, who won $1,500 for Zsa Zsa's victory, said she found the dog - named after the late actress Zsa Zsa Gabor - on a pet-finding site, according to the contest bio. "We take millions of pictures in my family, so now we have her face everywhere to remind us of her", added Brainard.

Zsa Zsa spent five years at a puppy mill in Missouri before being purchased by the nonprofit Underdog Rescue. She bested 13 other dogs to claim the top spot.

Zsa Zsa was up for the title of Ugliest Dog against some fierce competition: a blackhead-covered Chinese crested-dachshund mutt, a bulldog mix with excess wrinkly skin and a Pekingese named Wild Thang.
