Saturday's Manchester United transfer rumours: Paul Pogba, Ivan Perisic and Benjamin Pavard

Jose Mourinho has revealed the area of England's play in which he felt the Three Lions made the biggest mistake during their 2-1 World Cup semi-final defeats to Croatia.

Two defensive targets are said to be Tottenham Hotspurs' Toby Alderweireld and Bianconeri left-back Alex Sandro, with Mourinho reportedly wanting to strengthen his backline.

"They were giving [Dejan] Lovren the mission to go with that first ball with Maguire".

The reason the French media are taking such an interest in the story is because of the implications the move could have for Anthony Martial's future. It will be interesting to see just how much he would cost since he has helped Croatia to the final of the World Cup. A move for Perisic would likely push him further down the pecking order at the Theatre of Dreams.

Some of them are clearly not in Mourinho's plans, others have been openly criticised by the manager, and all of them could be getting more game time and playing more prominent roles elsewhere. Regardless of the result in the Luzhniki Stadium, he's expected to go on holiday after this before he returns to training ahead of the new season - be it with Inter or United.

The Croatian worldwide was linked with a move to Manchester last summer but TeamTalk claim United refused to meet Inter's £44m valuation and Perisic ended up staying at the San Siro and signing a new contract.

New signing Diogo Dalot was also at Carrington on Wednesday, along with Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Antonio Valencia, Andreas Pereira, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Joel Pereira.
