The Countdown spokeswoman said the Bell Farms' steamed vegetable mix was being recalled by Belgium company Greenyard Frozen BelgiumV, where it may have been packaged.

"New mandatory labelling laws give consumers clearer information about where their food comes from, so consumers can more easily identify if a food product is grown in Australia, which has some of the world's most stringent food safety protocols", he said, "We encourage Australian consumers to continue to support local growers by buying locally-grown fresh and frozen vegetables".

The listeria is the same serotype with similar genetics.

The unidentified person's family asked that no further details be released.

Nine deaths in Europe have been reported during the outbreak, which is believed to have started at a packaging plant in Hungary. Those who are over 70, have diabetes, cancer or even suppressed immune systems are most at risk, as well as pregnant women and their unborn babies.

While listeriosis can be a nasty bacteria that leads to illness, it is also a preventable evil.

New Zealand's Ministry of Primary Industries contacted New Zealand supermarkets on Monday to see if they stock products affected by a listeria outbreak in Australia.

The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services has revealed that a Victorian may have contracted listeria as a result of consuming the recently recalled frozen vegetables.

Mr May said that people who have the recalled frozen vegetable products (listed below) in their freezers should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of them.

"The same strains of L. monocytogenes have been detected in frozen vegetables produced by the same Hungarian company in 2016, 2017 and 2018".
