Shared earlier today through the game's official Twitter account, a mask hovered above the Season 5 text with a starry background. For example, in the days leading up to the beginning of Season 4, the game hinted that a meteor shower would change the island forever.
Epic has revealed when season 5 will begin, and the start date is right around the corner.
Others have suggested the stage coach and some leaked data files could be pointing toward a Wild West theme for Season 5, but that wouldn't explain the meaning of the rifts or why multiple landmarks and llamas are being spotted in the real world. Epic usually releases seven challenges each week that range in difficulty.
In terms of game play, don't expect Epic Games to mess with their winning formula too much, but don't be surprised to see a host of new items, weapons, consumables, and more released with, or shortly after, the Season 5 update. This time around, it looks like players will be seeing features from other worlds, as rifts open up and bring items in and out of reality. Their appearance in the real world is probably part of a big, marketing campaign by Epic Games-but that's just speculation at this time.
Most patches include content and bugfixes for both games, so it seems nearly inevitable that a big update is heading to Fortnite Battle Royale.
It seems more likely that the new update will go live late on Wednesday, or early on Thursday, July 12.
