Avenatti alleged that her arrest was "a politically motivated set up".

While it's unclear what charges, if any, Daniels may face following her arrest, it may relate to a 2007 state law called the Community Defense Act that prohibits dancers from touching customers and vice versa - excluding immediate family members.

Daniels has been embroiled in a lawsuit with the President since early March, to get out of a non-disclosure agreement relating to an alleged affair she had with him in 2006.

Stephanie Clifford, better known as Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress who said she had an affair with Donald J. Trump before he became president, was arrested at a strip club in Columbus, Ohio, her lawyer said early Thursday.

Avenatti said Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford, was arrested while "performing the same act she has performed across the nation at almost a hundred strip clubs".

Avenatti said Daniels was performing the same act on Wednesday that "she has performed across the nation at almost a hundred strip clubs". He added: "It reeks of desperation".

Avenatti said Daniels will be charged with a misdemeanor and expects her to be released on bail.

A woman who answered the phone at the strip club declined to comment on whether Daniels had been arrested or on whether her performance was still scheduled. "We will fight all bogus charges". She was arrested for allegedly allowing patrons to touch her in violation of OH law.

Daniels planned to be in Columbus Wednesday and Thursday as part of a nationwide tour, Avenatti said.

Stormy Daniels lawyer Michael Avenatti broke some news late Wednesday night involving the arrest of his client. Trump has said he personally reimbursed Cohen for that payment.
