This season, the inmates will also face the consequences for last season's prison riots; however, it's clear that the system definitely won't show these women any mercy. OitNB always did a great job of balancing the light and dark sides of its milieu, but we're feeling the sisterhood of GLOW over more Handmaid's Tale-style lady misery.
The tense first trailer for season six of Orange Is The New Black dropped on Monday, which showed the inmates shipped to a new prison. Will they ever manage to escape?
Keeping up with the trend from past seasons, Season 6 of Orange is the New Black takes place one week after the emergency response team stormed Litchfield Penitentiary. And the Litchfield ladies themselves are torn apart, as their friendships are tested in the risky new environment. As we've seen in previous seasons, that means there's sure to be a new cast of characters to cause problems. Now newbies they must navigate new rules and power dynamics, starting at the bottom, and getting hazed by inmates and tortured by guards. But, as Red (Kate Mulgrew) puts it in her blunt no-nonsense way, "We have iron wills and fucking nothing to lose".
Check out the "Criminal"-scored trailer for season six below, which looks like it'll be part Homeland-like Federal Bureau of Investigation probe (with its very own wall of suspects), part grittier prison drama (more punches! more tears!), and, as always, part fun romp-filled, female-led comedy (stay put for the final aerobics visual gag that will have you, well, gagging)". On the one hand, we're glad to see they're not glossing over the ramifications of last seasons prison riot arc.
As previously noted, Orange is the New Black Season 6 will premiere Friday, July 27th on Netflix, that is unless it gets leaked again like Season 5.
