While the world's biggest chipmaker dominates in both DRAM and NAND markets, the company has struggled with weaker-than-projected sales of its Galaxy S9 smartphones unveiled in the first three months of the year.

The original report also indicates that the unlocked variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 also stopped by at the FCC with a model number of SM-N960U, with support for all of the major wireless carriers in the United States.

Overall sales likely fell 4.9 percent from a year earlier to 58 trillion won, Samsung said, versus analysts' average forecast of 59.7 trillion won.

"Overall, third-quarter profit will be stronger than the second quarter as Samsung will perform better in the semiconductor and display businesses", Song Myung-sup, an analyst at HI Investment & Securities, said.

Korean business news site The Bell has it from multiple unnamed sources that Samsung is developing samples for three Galaxy S10 devices referred to internally as Beyond 0, Beyond 1, and Beyond 2, which are codenames we've seen several times before. Experts expect shipments of just 31 million units this year because of a lack of significant innovation with the S9. Sales of organic light-emitting diode screens to Apple Inc. have also been weaker than expected, while the growth of semiconductor prices has been slowing. Qualcomm will be the supplier of optical fingerprint sensors used in Samsung's new phones, while Chinese camera module maker O-Film will also supply key components. "While chips and phones cancel each other out in profit, the weakening won may work in Samsung's favor in the second half". The only drawback is the new wide-angle camera is now planned on all Beyond models without autofocus and without OIS.

Samsung said it will publish its full second-quarter earnings later this month.
